South Texas Food Bank Receives Major Holiday Donation from Southern Distributing

The spirit of giving was present at the The South Texas Food Bank yesterday as one of South Texas's leading beverage companies stopped by to present a generous donation to the organization.

Southern Distributing VP Carlos “Kiko” Treviño visited the food bank with a check in the amount of $11,500 and presented it to Board Chair Kevin Romo, Board Member Hugo Flores, and Alma Boubel, CEO of The South Texas Food Bank. The donation is part of the company’s December holiday campaign effort to combat food insecurity in South Texas. Mr. Treviño reiterated his company's commitment to improving the quality of life of our community via the food bank.

For 35 years, The South Texas Food Bank has been fighting food insecurity in Laredo and surrounding counties. With an impressive track record, the food bank distributed 21 million pounds of food during their last

fiscal year. This feat is only possible with the support of donors like Southern Distributing. The company is a longstanding, family-owned wholesale beer and soft drinks distributor in South Texas that has supported the food bank’s hunger-relief efforts for over 20 years.

The South Texas Food Bank CEO expressed appreciation for the donations received, stating, "We are so grateful to our friends at Southern Distributing for their generous and longtime support of the food bank. Their commitment to our mission allows us to continue to provide much needed food assistance and nourishment to our neighbors in need. We can always count on them."

Board Chair Kevin Romo echoed similar sentiments. He thanked Mr. Treviño and his company for always keeping our mission and neighbors in mind when it comes time to give. "Southern Distributing," Romo said, "is more than just a donor - they are a friend of The South Texas Food Bank. They have always answered the call to action."

Southern Distributing's donation comes at a critical point. According to Feeding Texas, one in six people are struggling with hunger in Texas, with one in three being children - these numbers are expected to grow in 2025. The funds from Southern Distributing will allow the South Texas Food Bank to provide 115,000 meals throughout its eight-county service area.
