34% of college students face food-insecurity.
Half of them report having an average ofone meal a day!

At the South Texas Food Bank, we believe no student should have to choose between buying textbooks or putting food on the table. That’s why we launched Nourish U, our college pantry initiative committed to ending student hunger across South Texas.

The journey began in 2013, when Judge Hector Liendo, along with his son and community partners, helped open the Palomino Pantry at Laredo Community College (now Laredo College) on  April 17, 2013 in the P‑3 building of the Fort McIntosh Campus - initially distributing about 2,000 lbs. of food to students. This marked the first-ever food pantry on a college campus in our service area—an effort aimed at supporting students facing food insecurity.

Since then, the need has only grown. In 2023, the South Texas Food Bank formally expanded its college pantry program under the Nourish U banner, creating a network of food pantries on campuses to ensure students have access to the nutrition they need to focus, learn, and succeed.

Today, we proudly support three active college pantries, with more on the way.

By supporting Nourish U, you’re helping us nourish minds, fuel futures, and empower tomorrow’s leaders—one student, one campus at a time.

Make a difference today. Donate to a campus pantry and help students stay focused, healthy, and ready to succeed.

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) actively backs local food banks and pantries through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). This program not only provides essential nourishment to those in need but also supports the nation's agricultural producers.
