September is Hunger Action Month, and this year our community came together in a big way to raise awareness about food insecurity and support local families facing hunger. Here's a look back at how the month unfolded.

Kicking Off the Month

We launched Hunger Action Month with a special event featuring the Hunger Action Month video and a cake-cutting celebration. We also joined KGNS for an interview to highlight our activities, raise awareness about food insecurity, and encourage community involvement.

We were honored to receive four Hunger Action Month proclamations from Kinney County, Dimmit County, Val Verde County, and the City of Laredo.

Spreading Awareness

On September 10, we celebrated Orange Day, encouraging staff to wear orange and help raise awareness about hunger in our communities.

On September 16, we held a Volunteer Day featuring social media influencer Slimerella, who has more than 100,000 followers. She volunteered alongside our team and created content that helped expand awareness of Hunger Action Month and our mission.

On September 18, our Marketing team hosted a special AAF event, creating thank-you cards with lollipops for our clients to show appreciation and encouragement.

Community Partnerships in Action

On September 25, we partnered with Chick-fil-A and Texas Roadhouse for a special food distribution. Both mascots made appearances, creating a fun and engaging experience for the families who joined us. We also teamed up with Smoothie King and Orangetheory to host food drives.

On September 29, volunteers from TAMIU, the TAMIU Athletic Department, and the SDL Sorority joined us for a volunteer day.

Closing the Month

We wrapped up Hunger Action Month with the Walk to Nourish at Southwest Texas College's Eagle Pass Campus. More than 50 staff and students took part, including the college's Law Enforcement cadets and dance team.

The Impact

Throughout the month, our Hunger Action Month activities increased awareness of food insecurity, strengthened community partnerships, engaged volunteers, and brought the community together in support of local families facing hunger.
