Laredo, TX (January 22, 2025) – Departing this afternoon, the South Texas Food Bank sent a truckload of juice to our Feeding America sister food bank, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. This donation was sent over in light of the Greater Los Angeles wildfires that have displaced and destroyed thousands of homes in the area.
As a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks, the South Texas Food Bank collaborates with food banks across the country. During times of crisis, it is common for food banks to extend assistance not just within their state but across the country.
“We are sending this donation in support of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank that is at the forefront of providing emergency assistance to families and individuals affected by the Los Angeles fires,” said Alma Boubel, South Texas Food Bank Chief Executive Officer.

Boubel noted that the area is in need of safe drinking water and other beverages, as natural water resources have become contaminated by the fires. This donation provides a stable inventory that the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank can disperse as needed. It is also important to note that this truckload comes from surplus inventory at the South Texas Food Bank and will not affect distributions within our service areas.
When asked about future aid efforts, Boubel stated, “We’ll definitely continue to monitor the situation, and we’ll help out in whichever ways we can. We encourage our community, if able, to donate to both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and any other charities involved in the recovery. Times like these require the support of all of us.”
