Cinco de Mayo Health Fair Under the Stars
Thursday, May 5 - 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.
Attendees line up to get free food produce at the food bank’s health fair hosted on November 2021.
It will be a fun evening under the stars this coming May 5th as the South Texas Food Bank hosts the Cinco de Mayo Health Fiesta Under the Stars.
Following the success of last year's fall health festival, the spring edition promises to be bigger and full of color and fun for the entire family.
The event will feature organizations that will offer a wide variety of information and services that impact not only physical health, but home and financial wellness as well.
"Modern food banking is more holistic. We are more than just a food center where people can come and get free food. We are a place that creates awareness, provides social services, promotes long-term sustainability and addresses the underlying causes of hunger, which include poverty and poor healthcare," said Alma Boubel, Executive Director.
"This is why we are very excited to have all these great organizations participate in this event and give us the opportunity to present and offer resources that are useful and will improve the health and quality of life of our community," she concluded.
22 community agencies, organizations, and businesses have signed up to participate, this include the: The City of Laredo Health Department, Gateway Community Clinic, Laredo Cancer Society, Driscoll Health, Maximus, Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center, Laredo Crime Stoppers, Keep Laredo Beautiful, NeighborWorks, Life Pregnancy Center, South Texas Area Agency on Aging, Las Promesas de Laredo, Texas A&M Colonias Health & WIC, Azteca Economic Development, SCAN, Laredo Public Library, Planet Dental, Enroll 4 Health, Helping to Ensure Laredo’s Prosperity, Molina Healthcare, and the South Texas Food Bank's SNAP Outreach.
The health fiesta will also include a farmers mercado featuring a wide variety of seasonal produce that attendees will get a chance to take home for free, plus food samples, and fun giveaways. Thanks to Texas Roadhouse, Planet Dental, Fuddruckers, Whataburger, and Tacos Kissi for donating door prizes to be given away during the event.
Special performances by the J.B. Alexander High School Mariachi, Monumental de Oro, and the City of Laredo Health Department’s Zumba class. Also, The South Texas Food Bank will present the Volunteer Group of the Year and the Volunteer of the Year award in honor of National Volunteer Month.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Cinco de Mayo Health Fiesta Under the Stars will take place on Thursday, May 5th at the South Texas Food Bank (2121 Jefferson St.) from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M.
