Following the overnight fire at the DoubleTree Hotel, the South Texas Food Bank’s Disaster Relief team took immediate action to assist displaced guests and support first responders.

The team delivered electrolytes and cases of water to Fire Station 3 for first responders on Wednesday.

On Thursday, October 8, the Food Bank will expand its response by distributing disaster food boxes, water, electrolytes, and fresh fruit to residents impacted by the event.

“Whenever an emergency affects our community, we want our neighbors to know they are not alone,” said Alma Boubel, CEO of the South Texas Food Bank. “We are grateful to the first responders who are working to keep our community safe, and we are proud to stand alongside those who have been impacted by this fire.”

“The food bank facility is not too far from the hotel where the incident occurred,” added Alma Boubel, “so for us this is once again neighbors helping neighbors in their time of need.”
