Longtime partners, the South Texas Food Bank and H-E-B grocery stores, teamed up for the annual Help End Hunger tear pad campaign which ran from August 28 thru October 8 at all H-E-B stores in our service area.
H-E-B collects donations from its customers at the cashiers’ check-out stand. Patrons had the option of tearing off the donor card in the amounts of $1, $3 and $5.
Due to its affiliation with Feeding America and Feeding Texas, the South Texas Food Bank converts every dollar donated into 10 meals, 12 pounds of food or $19 worth of groceries, therefore all donations collected through this campaign are maximized.
All Laredo H-E-B stores took contributions, plus those in the STFB service area of Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Carrizo Springs and Rio Grande City. All donations will benefit the South Texas Food Bank programs and the 60 food pantries stocked by the South Texas Food Bank in Webb and neighboring counties.
South Texas Food Bank Board Chair Kevin Romo said, “H-E-B has been our No. 1 corporate sponsor. Through the years, these tear pads have meant thousands of dollars to help us feed the hungry. A big thank you to H-E-B and its customers. It means a lot to our mission of feeding the hungry and obviously the thousands of clients we serve monthly.” •
