Food Processor/Forklift Operator

Work under the direction of the warehouse manager and perform such duties as the receipting, storing and distributing food and other products in the warehouse and in the community.
Duties and Responsibilities

Work with Warehouse Manager to ensure warehouse facility safety and sanitation procedures are carried out.

Work with Warehouse Manager to ensure a healthy and safe warehouse environment is maintained at all times.

Prepares agency order requests as provided by Intake clerks.

Clean and sort all incoming food items from salvage centers and food drives.

Works with pallet jacks and forklifts to store and retrieve products as necessary.

Performs regular warehouse and equipment cleaning and maintenance. Keep maintenance records and logs.

Assists member agencies to load vehicles at dock area.

Travel with truck drivers to sites outside the Food Bank to make deliveries.

Must load and unload tractor trailers and stock inventory as needed.

Other duties as assigned by Executive Director, Warehouse Manager, or Operations Manager.
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED. One year experience in warehousing preferred but not necessary.

Must be able to operate standard warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts.

Must be able to obtain forklift certification within a 6 month period, if asked.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Current driver's license with safe driving record.

Must be able to pass criminal background check.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in warehouse with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Workspace could be dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building. Periodically may work outside and be exposed to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds. Must be able to use forklifts and obtain forklift license.
Persons performing this job may work with volunteers who are providing services to the South Texas Food Bank. As set forth in our policies, the South Texas Food Bank does not tolerate harassment on any characteristic protected by law. No person is permitted to carry weapons of any sort on the South Texas Food Bank premises and we strictly enforce a no violence policy in the workplace.
Employee may be required to work evenings and weekends.
