Fall Health Fair 2021
Attendees line up to win a door prize at the food bank’s health fair hosted on September 2019.
The South Texas Food Bank’s community health fair is back with the end goal of raising awareness about the health risks associated with food insecurity.
The Fall Health Fair event is programmed for the first Saturday in November – November 6, 2021 from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M- and it will feature several health-related agencies and organizations that will be providing information and free services such as blood pressure checks, and glucose exams to the attendees. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines will also be offered.
Participating agencies and organizations include the City of Laredo Health Department, Gateway Community Health Center Prairie View A&M Cooperative Extension Program, Border Region Behavioral Health, South Texas Development Council Area Agency on Aging, Texans Recovering Together, and Texas A&M University Colonias Program.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to win door prizes.
“We are very excited to be bringing this family event back after a long recess due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Alma Boubel, South Texas Food Bank Executive Director.
The last time that the food bank hosted a health fair was back in September 2019.
Besides the health providers, this year’s fair will also feature a farmers market, sponsored by H.E.B. Stores.
“Attendees will learn about different vegetables and fruits, but they will also learn how to make fun and simple recipes with them,” Boubel mentioned. “Our very own Chef Pearson will be on site doing food demos for attendees to enjoy.”
Boubel noted that the children will get to take some of the featured produce home.
Attendees are encouraged to attend early as some offerings are limited and on a first come, first serve basis.
