On August 18, 2018, food bank friends and supporters came together to wine and dine for a cause. Enough money was raised to provide more than 100,000 meals for the needy from the South Texas Food Bank’s First Annual Wine Tasting sponsored by Texas Community Bank and L&F Distributors.
Children and senior citizens rely on our food bank programs due to food security. Laredo and the surrounding South Texas counties face a staggering high poverty level. The funds raised from the event will go back in to the community in the form of meals.
Alma Boubel, Executive Director of the South Texas Food Bank stated during the event presentation, “While we wish food security would decline in numbers, unfortunately, that is not the case. There is an ever increasing demand for our assistance, but with the development of our new facility, we will be able to help much more people. We rely on our fundraisers, like our First Annual Wine Tasting, to spread hunger awareness but to also incur funds to help with the continuation and the development of our programs that help many.”
The STFB’s First Annual Wine Tasting’s event sponsors included: A.R. Tony and Maria Sanchez Family Foundation, Falcon Bank, IBC Bank, BBVA Compass, Dominion Construction, Hickey-Peña Architects, Flores-Castaño Imports, Laredo College and Fedha Nyuki. Guests were treated to live entertainment by Carlos & Mochis and a silent auction, as they wine and dined for a cause.
Texas Community Bank and L&F Distributors were awarded the “Hunger Hero” Award for their support in our First Annual Wine Tasting. It was through their kind efforts that we were able to bring forth the Food Bank’s First Annual Wine Tasting.
“Through like-minded and kind hearted individuals, we are able to help many people who face hunger issues. Children, senior citizens and struggling families alike will have a meal to eat because of your support. Together we can truly make the difference in our community! Thank you for making this event a possibility and helping us feed thousands!” Alma Boubel concluded in her closing remarks.
