About this program
Despite the unforeseen cancellations of vacations, the lack of pool parties and playing with the neighborhood kids, the children of Webb County were offered even more sites in which to receive free meals this summer. The South Texas Food Bank commenced its Summer Food Service Program this past summer which provided lunch and snacks to kids spread across Webb County. This program, which nationally provides warm meals and snacks throughout the summer, is designed to provide nutrition to children who depend on meals provided by the school during the normal school year. Kids were offered delicious and nutritious meals prepared by South Texas Food Bank’s very own Chef, Stephen Pearson.
This program was available to kids of all ages at six different sites through grab n’ go distribution. In total, this program provided meals to over 800 children daily throughout Webb County. The South Texas Food Bank will provide summer meals once again next year, once school lets out. For a complete list of summer feeding sites in the area, information may be requested by calling 2-1-1 or by following the South Texas Food Bank on Facebook.
