South Texas Food Bank Launches Community Garden
(Laredo, TX): The South Texas Food Bank inaugurated their community garden with an “I Dig Gardening Fair” on Saturday, March 16, 2019. The event featured gardening demonstrations, health education, free healthy lunch samples and Zumba lessons.
Food insecurity is a very real problem in our community, with 1 in 3 children going to bed hungry at night. The South Texas Food Bank aims to target this issue by educating the community on the many ways we can combat hunger. One way of doing so is by growing a sustainable garden that produces food at home.
"Our ultimate goal is not just to feed people," stated Alma Bouble, Executive Director of the South Texas Food Bank. "We want to go beyond that and provide our clients with the education, tools and resources necessary to overcome the obstacles that have brought them to us for help.
